WNYC's Brian Leher Has a Blog!
I'm such a fan of WNYC's Brian Lehrer, and I'm delighted to see he's started a blog. Of course, I proposed he should do this a year and a half ago. Now he's just got to pave the way for Leonard Lopate.Hi Brian: Thanks for the talk about the atrocities at the Abu Ghraib prison. Most interesting: the two men, both with military experience, who called with honest and heartfelt rationalizations for these terrible acts of inhumanity. "We must," each said, "to protect our troops." Not much protection when it exposes the troops to similar treatment by the other side.
But it's the rational that is the killer. If we have no honor -- and the other side has no honor -- then civilization itself is the casuality; and before it's over, we'll all be swinging from the trees.

I know this is a bit delayed as I just came back from Europe Friday morning and was consumed with those attendant chores. Katrina Vanden Huevel, interviewed by Mr. Leher. Sshe was so indigant about the stupid remarks that Rush Limbaugh and his cohorts that linked her name to the hurricane, that she came off shrill and just as nutty as Limbaugh sounds. I am not sympathetic with Ms Vanden Huevel's leftist ideas, nor am I sympathetic to Mr Limbaugh's rightest ideas, even if I have moved to the right. Why is it that woman in power take themselves so very seriously. Some woman, the brighter they are, are less inclined to this self important seriousness. Most men would not enter this stance of self importance If Ms Vanden Huevel had laughed and said that what Mr Limbaugh said reflected on him, and not on her and it is to his detriment. God save us from humorless people, left, middle right....
